Question by Sarafina: What is best for an older person, a Nikon digital SLR or a Nikon point and shoot?
My 72 year old Grandmother wants a Nikon digital camera. I have Nikon d5000, and she wants the same one. Should I get her a digital SLR or a point and shoot? I think I should get her a point and shoot because of her age and because she isn't tech savvy, but she wants on like mine!
Please help! I want her to be happy with what I get her.

You could get her a bridge camera like the Nikon P500. They have the ease of use of a point-and-shoot but have the manual controls of a DSLR. Then there's the 36x optical zoom which really comes in handy for travel. It costs about $ 400.

Have her try to use yours for a few days, or at least while you visit. See if she can figure it out and if the weight doesn’t bother her when focusing and taking pics. Have her take at least 20 pics as the weight might get to her after a while.
If she still wants one, and you have the money, fine. Personally, I’d go with a nice point and shoot which would be easier for her to use and lighter for her to hold.
well, get her a Nikon BRIDGE camera. it looks like a DSLR but it is a very gud point n shoot camera. it has gud automatic features so it wont be a problem using it as she isn’t tech savvy. Nikon P500 is a nice option.
If she has had success using a 35 mm SLR, then a nice NIkon dSLR like the D3100 would be just fine.
If not, the aforesaid Nikon Coolpix P500 should work out just right for her
She’s old. Get her what she wants. Glue the mode dial to Auto and fix EV to +0.7. That should make her truly happy.
