Packing For A Snow Filled Weekend At A Ski Resort

by admin on 2010/03/19

Skiing is a sport that you either love or hate. Ski trips can be enjoyable mini vacations or week long adventures. The trip needs to be well thought out as packing can be overwhelming if you have never been on a trip designed to be spent in the snow.

When researching resorts, verify what other activities are available. Many places are far away from other tourist attractions. You might not want to have all of your meals at the resort for instance, you should check on the distances to restaurants. If you have never been on a ski slope it is wise to have an instructor with you the first few times you go. Wear a leather watch that will not ruin in the wet snow and check it often if taking lessons, as instructors will not wait when you are late.

Pack items that can be worn in a layered fashion. Sweaters and long sleeve shirts are a must for the snow. Also pack a couple pairs of thermal underwear to stay warm and protected against snow and wind. Purchase socks that are water resistant, they can be found in the sports department of most stores. Remember to pack a pair of women's brown boots for keeping feet warm.

The temperatures fluctuate on the slopes so clothing should be worn in layers. If you get too bundled up and begin to sweat it will feel warmer than you really are, so do not remove too many layers at first. Always keep your jacket on, but if you get too hot remove a sweater and only wear a long sleeve shirt and coat.

The best type of jacket is a down filled one. There are coats made specifically for being on the ski slopes but they can be expensive. Purchasing a well made and snug fitting coat will be fine. It should not be lose, however, the snug fitting ones will keep the wind out.

You will also need to wear a hat to cover the exposed areas of your face. Keeping your face covered will protect you from wind burn. Also pack sun glasses or goggles, Chap Stick to protect your lips and the Lancome eye cream is great for keeping the area around your eyes protected from the wind.

Skis can usually be rented in case you do not own a pair as can other necessities such as a pole. Check ahead of time to make sure the resort you are going to offers rentals. Many places also offer sledding or snowboarding if you prefer not to ski.

The most important thing to remember if this is your first trip to a lodge is to have a great time. When the snow becomes more than you can handle, go inside and sit by the fire to read a good book.
