what do airlines do with unclaimed luggage?

I read that airlines lose thousands of bags per day. I'm sure many of those are never claimed. What do airlines do with them if no one claims them?

phlflyers1 March 9, 2010 at 2:59 pm: The airline will sell the unclaimed baggage to a company who in turn sells it for a profit. The airline will only do this to get back some losses from paying out from lost luggage.
