I was told by a coworker about this really cheap airline called the skybus airlines and it flys out of new york and delaware. but I would like to know if someone has actually been on or have used this airline before. please I really need to know from actual people who have used this airline before only. and if you would use it again. Im planning a family trip to south carolina and this would be great if its a good service.
has anyone heard about the skybus airlines that offers really cheap prices to fly on the east coast.?

To be honest I’ve never flown them myself, although I’ve looked into it and found a cheaper deal on American Airlines. However, I know several people who HAVE flown them before and there are several things to watch out for:
-They do have lower fares for the most part, but not always. They have ten $10 seats on every flight, but many flights cost more than that, and also by the time you add taxes and fees, it adds more to the cost of your ticket.
-They charge for everything. This includes checking luggage. And you’re only allowed to bring a very small bag on board, so this pretty much forces you to check your luggage and pay $10 per bag. They charge for food (ok not such a big deal since all airlines do that now, and the food on Skybus is supposed to be very good). However, again, they don’t let you bring your own food on board, so you’re forced to buy food from them. Plus, if you have to make a connecting flight, Skybus doesn’t automatically check your bags through – you have to pick them up and re-check them for your next flight (and pay the $10 again).
-They fly to less-convenient airports. For example, they don’t really fly to Boston, they fly to Portsmouth, NH (an hour drive away). Yes, it’s a smaller and less-congested airport, but I have to drive an hour to get there and if my ticket is only a few dollars cheaper on Skybus, it’s not worth it. A few months ago I flew to Columbus, Ohio, and it was about $40 or so cheaper on Skybus, but by the time I drove to Portsmouth and paid the $10 each way to check my bag, it wouldn’t have saved me any money.
- Also, they even admit on their own website that they don’t have a main toll-free phone number and they have very few airport personnel. So if anything goes wrong – they cancel a flight or lose your luggage, for example – it will be difficult to get the problem resolved. This has actually happened to someone I know.
So, basically, if you’re really getting a very good deal with Skybus, then go with them. I’ve heard their service is okay. However, keep in mind that there are other added costs by flying with them, and it might not be such a good deal.
>>>EDIT: I KNEW IT!! I predicted that people would realize their crappiness and they’d go out of business within a matter of months.
LOVED THEM! They went out of business tonight!!
i wouldnt recomed it, seing as its bankrupt and im stranded in florida at the moment
Yes that is true. Or, WAS true. As of just yesterday, Skybus shut its doors for good.

Thats too bad, though. It would have been a great opportunity for you and your family. It’s amazing that they went out on such short notice. The time which you asked this question, it was still open. Now, two short days later, they’re done!
