More and more of folk are choosing music festivals their annual vacation. Even though the majority of music festivals are huge with a focus on making money, you can find a small number of family music festivals, for example Tartan Heart and the Wickerman Festival.
The Wickerman Festival is an annual music and arts festival is held on a farm near the village of Dundrennan, Dumfries & Galloway about 5 miles from Kirkcudbright, Scotland. The event celebrates the classic cult movie, "The Wicker Man which features Edward Woodward, Sir Christopher Lee, Diane Cilento, Britt Ekland and Ingrid Pitt.
The first festival was held in July two thousand and two and was put together by local man, Sid Ambrose. With little experience of arranging a music festival it is a surprise that it is still held today, especially when you think about the present economic climate. The festival has slightly changed each year and, like the movie, has a cult following.
Wickerman is hugely family friendly it features numerous activities for children for example, a mountain biking trail, a fairground, face painting and various workshops. This can be verified easily by searching for photographs of the Wickerman Festival 2009 or simply pop along to the official Wickerman Festival Gallery.
Near to the site of the festival is Kirkudbright where you will find many of the locations used in the film including Harbour Cottage which was used for the bakery and High Street Gallery which was used for the post office and sweetshop of May Morrison. You will discover that there are many places worth visiting in the region and it is really worth spending a few days here so that you can visit all of the visitor attractions. Common places in which to stay include Castle Douglas and Dumfries. Scottish bed and breakfast is nearly always first class and is also very reasonably priced and less costly than staying in a hotel.
